You’ve recently got Engaged (yay!) and now it’s time to think about actually booking the date for your special day….

but where do you start when planning your date what things should you bear in mind, our guide is designed to help cover all these points.

What Should You Consider When Picking Your Wedding Date?

Special Dates/Avoid Occasions

Firstly, do you have special dates that you could celebrate on?

Are there any dates that you especially celebrate for example the birthday of a cherished person or the date your parents got married. Perhaps you and your partner meet on a specific date that you would love to get married on, maybe you share a birthday and it would be great to celebrate everything on the same day.

It is always special to have another meaning to a Wedding day just be careful though that you date doesn’t clash with something special for a close family member or friend who might wish to keep a date free to celebrate something.

February is a busy month for the romantics that want to get married in the low Wedding season around Valentine’s day and this may be a tricky time of year to find a venue.

In contrast December might be a time to avoid as people would have made plans to be with their families over the festive season and might not be free to attend your Winter wedding.

What About Your Guests Plans and Other Weddings

Make sure you are kept up to date with any other Weddings that are going on in the year you would like to get married as well as checking dates don’t clash perhaps you might want to leave time between yours and other wedding dates so that you and everyone else can enjoy the full build up to your special day.

There are people that are happy to share a date with another couple, like really close friends or twins but this is something for everyone!

Avoid any specific dates that close family or friends have for other things such as medical reasons, is your grandmother having a hip operation and needing time to recover or is your sister due to have a baby anytime near your proposed dates?

Should any of your guests have children it is worth giving some thought that they may have made plans for the summer holidays spending time with their families at home or abroad and that might scupper your guest plans if they have already made firm holiday bookings.

Seasonal Trends

The time of year you are considering getting married might have significance for your Wedding theme, perhaps you have always dreamed of having a White Christmas Wedding or a Summer Festival style day.

Consider what will be in season for the time of year you are looking at in terms of colours, decorations and flowers.

Discounts for Your Budget

There will always be discounts to be had for holding your Wedding outside of the standard Wedding season (April – September mainly in the UK), Suppliers and venue may be willing to offer discounts for out of season bookings.

A little known fact is that there are also discounts when holding Weddings mid-week rather than the standard Saturday, you might even get a cheaper deal by holding you Wedding at a different time in the day.

When Will You Go On Honeymoon

Make sure you tie in your Wedding date with your Honeymoon, have you picked a far away dream destination for your honeymoon and do you need to go during their dry season and do you need to book your Wedding in line with this?

Is Your Venue Free on your dates?

If you have chosen your ultimate Wedding venue that you simply must have you might be tied a little by the dates they can offer you in the year you want to et married, of course if you have strong feelings about the dates you want to pick you might need to be a bit more flexible about your venue.

If you are completely set on your venue you could even consider moving to another year, some venues do take bookings a number of years in advance for example.

Are your Suppliers Free on your date?

The same applies to Suppliers as it does your venue, you might have picked the best suppliers you could possibly have that fit in with your theme and everything you want for your special day so you need to be checking if they are free for the dates that you have in mind.

Give Guests Notice

Whatever Wedding date you decide upon, make sure that you give your guests sufficient notice so they can make their own arrangements whether that’s booking days off work, arranging travel or hotels, getting presents and outfits organised.
