We know that Event Organisers are more aware of what impact their events will have on the wider environment whether they are holding a Small Wedding or a Large Scale Public Event with 1000s attending you will want to make sure that you are taking steps to reduce your waste and increase your recycling.
At The Hungry Plaice we have worked to minimise our Food Waste, by changing our Business Model to only attend prepaid events this helps us plan events better by identifying the exact numbers we will be catering we can work out how much food is required by event and keep our food portions waste to a minimum, we also have a limited menu which aids this as well. This in turn helps us keep our costs down without the need to throw away food unnecessarily.
Another large area we have worked on is packaging waste, whilst we can easily manage waste generated when making stock purchases such as cardboard by using recycling wherever possible we were conscious that most of the waste we generated was being passed to customers whilst serving at events.
To overcome this problem we looked at every item we use when serving to see if we could change to sustainable items, this was easy for trays where instead of using polystyrene boxes we have found biodegradable trays which are Eco friendly and are even compostable. A further easy swap was changing our cutlery from plastic to wooden another quick easy win to make our business more sustainable for our customers!
We have now pledged to become Carbon Neutral at our Business and have offset our Carbon Usage through Carbon Footprint Ltd and we have also joined the Oblong UK Ltd 10 Year Tree Plan.
